From our partner ForTheKingdomGoods: "The ancient world sealed their letters with their own personal stamp so the recipient could trust that the letter had not been tampered with, nor had its contents been compromised. As well, the seal was not only important to protect the letter itself, but would also be used near a signature to show that the authenticity of the signer."
